Director: Michael Bay

Stars: Gemma Chan, Laura Haddock, Isabela Moner

“There will be big celebrations Transformers The Last Knight to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Transformers franchise in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou this summer,” said Paramount Pictures President Jim Gianopulos at the Beijing International Film Festival.

“Transformers: The Last Knight” is the follow-up to “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” which premiered in 2014 and led the Chinese box office that year by raising 1.88 billion yuan (288 million US dollars).

This summer, Cade Yeager, played by Mark Wahlberg, will join the Dinobots to solve the problems, while Optimus Prime looks for the Quintessons and fights against Unicron.

Michael Bay has been the director of the five films in the series that is based on the toys created by Hasbro and Tomy in the 80’s of last century. The Beijing International Film Festival, which began on April 16 and will last a week, will exhibit about 500 films in 30 theaters in the Chinese capital.

Transformers is one of those movie sagas that many say they hate but that most ends up watching. There is something that catches on all the nonsense of Michael Bay and his many hours of shots, chaos and explosions. Transformers: The Last Knight will be no exception.

The last trailer of the fifth installment of the franchise makes it clear that it does not matter that his plot is a damn madness without feet or head, just as it could be a funny movie. And the Last Knight has it all: knights of the round table, giant robots, Nazis, spaceships, destruction, explosions and simultaneous decapitations of robots. All this, accompanied by the voice of Sir Anthony Hopkins with an expression on the face that translates into “I do not know how I ended up here.”

But it does not matter, because there we will be watching The Last Knight in a couple of months. We will leave the cinema criticizing it and complaining about Bay’s madness although in the background we know that we have had a good laugh.

The film is starring Laura Haddock, Stanley Tucci, Jerrod Carmichael, John Goodman, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Isabela Moner, Gil Birmingham and Jean Dujardin, and will hit cinemas in June.

Although Michael Bay said that this would be his last installment of the franchise, the same director confirmed that there are 14 stories of the series ready to become films.
